Benefits of Meditation

Stress Reduction

Meditation, which focuses on calming the mind, has been shown to reduce the body’s stress response and lower blood pressure. This physical reaction can reduce inflammation, chronic pain, fatigue, and heart disease.

Anxiety and Depression Management

Meditation can slow racing thoughts and regulate breathing, which calms the nervous system. Meditation can also help to break negative thought patterns through mindfulness and emotional regulation.

Improved Sleep

Research suggests meditation can improve a person’s ability to fall asleep. Regular meditation calms the mind; it becomes easier to reach a relaxed state and fall asleep.

Improved memory and focus

Research shows the brains of people who meditate regularly are healthier and less likely to show age-related loss of function. They also have a stronger ability to concentrate and can process negative emotions like fear, anger and grief in healthy ways.

Need Some More Information?

Here are some frequently asked questions to help you.

  • Group meditation classes are offered at Willow Tree or can be offered onsite at local businesses.

  • If you are an employee, speak with your human resources coordinator; they are often looking for unique ways to add to their wellness program. Simply call us or fill out the Contact Us form, we’re happy to answer any questions. Jen can create a meditation specific to your business or employee’s needs: stress relief, creativity blocks, communication challenges, deep relaxation and more.

  • If you are on-site at Willow Tree, mats and cushions are provided. If Jen is coming to your business, no special equipment is needed. If you have the space to spread out, participants can bring in yoga mats; if not, guided meditation can be just as effective in chairs or around a conference room table!

  • Absolutely not! Any form of focused attention that helps you to reach a state of peace and relaxation can be considered “meditative.” It is all about calming the mind; walking in nature, engaging in a creative activity where you lose track of time (flow state!), repeating a mantra, slow patterned breathing, or following along with a guided meditation- these are all good for your nervous system and can be considered a form of meditation.

  • Guided meditation is perfect for you! Trying to shut your brain “off” can be difficult for everyone; guided meditation gives your brain somewhere to go. It literally guides you to a state of relaxation. Even if you find your mind wandering, no judgement, just notice and bring your attention back.

The History of Meditation

The origin of meditation is difficult to trace, but historians believe that the roots of mediation extend back to the very beginnings of humanity and the discovery of fire. Coming from the Latin meditatum, meditation can be interpreted to mean “to ponder.” The earliest written descriptions of meditation techniques can be found in the ancient Indian Vedas, scribed around 1500 BCE. Bridging gaps and crossing boundaries, a form of meditation is found in nearly every culture across the globe
